Fuzhou University,a key university co-established by the MinistryofEducationofChinaandFujianProvince, a member of the one hundred and sixteen univerities with key construction of 211 project in China. The College of Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) was founded in July 1998 on the basis of the metallic materials and heat treatment major of Engineering Department and building materialsmajorof Chemistry Department and inorganic nonmetallic materials specialty of Geology and Mineral Department. It is organized by Materials Science Engineering Department and Polymeric Materials and Engineering Department, and an experiment center. CMSE has one Provincial experiment teaching demonstration center and innovative experimental class which aims dedicated to foster the interdisciplinary talents who not only have an international perspective, a creative spirit but also possession extensive specialized background and outstanding ability in scientific research.

The college has PhD graduate programs at first-level disciple programs, offering PhD degrees at the majors of materials science and engineering, materials physics chemistry, materials science, materials processing engineering and new energy materials. It also has MS graduate programs at five-level disciple programs, offering MS degrees at the majors of materials science and engineering, materials physics chemistry, materials science, materials processing engineering and materials engineering. CMSE has about 880 students, more than 638 undergraduates, more than 270 graduates and 35 PhD candidates enrolled in.

CMSE now has 50 faculty members, among whom 17 are professors, 23 associate professors. In terms of academic degrees, there are 92 percent Ph.D. holders and 42 percent with overseas experience. The list of leading distinguished professors include 1 Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (chair professor), 1 professor ofthe Changjiang Scholar Program(adjunct professor), 1 professor of theNational Distinguished Young Scholars Program(adjunct professor), 1young and middle-aged expert of National Prize for Outstanding Contribution, 4 professors ofthe Min Jiang Scholar Programand 3 professors ofthe “Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents ” Programand 5 professors ofthe New Century Excellent Talents in Fujian Province Universityand 7 receive the special subsidy of the State Council.

CMSE has founded Fujian Engineering and Technology Research Center of Functional Polymeric Materials, Fujian Provincial Technology Development Base of Functional Materials, Key Laboratory of Eco-materials Advanced Technology (Fuzhou University). Until now, the college had undertaken more than 32 National Nature Science Foundation of China, 40 provincial and ministerial projects, published about 700 research papers in SCI and EI journals and won 19 provincial science and technology awards as well as 300 patens.
