Education Status of Materials Science and Technology in Taiwan Ended a Great Success

On December 1st, CMSE was honored to have Professor Du Zhenggong, Professor of Department of Materials in National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and the chairman of the Taiwan Association for Coating and Thin Film Technology, to introduce the status quo of materials science and education in Taiwan. Xu Xueyu, the Party Committee Secretary of CMSE, Professor Zhan Hongbing, Dean of the college, and Professor Wang Chen, Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering were present at the forum, along with undergraduate students of the year 2013&2014.

 Professor Du started with an introduction to the educational system in Taiwan. Professor Du detailed university life in Taiwan by taking the Department of Materials in National Tsing Hua University as an example. He illustrated teaching approaches, training programs and daily life with his own experience woven through.

 With the view to further strengthen the cooperation with the universities on mainland of China to promotes the university development, Professor Du analyzed the similarities and differences of education between the two sides, and believed that education exchanges will prove helpful for both teachers and students in gaining experience and acquiring advanced knowledge. Having introduced ways and methods of furthering their study in universities in Taiwan, Professor Du extended his welcome to the students in CMSE for an exchange experience. In the Q&A time, Professor Du responded to questions and demonstrated his eloquence which has been well received by the attendees with applause.  

The forum led to a better acquaintance with the academic achievements and educational system of the Department of Materials Science of the leading universities in Taiwan as well as a keen awareness of difference in learning approaches between mainland and Taiwan and thus a solid foundation for the educational reform of our college has been laid.
