报告摘要:The development of advanced energy storage solutions is key to enabling the transition towards a more sustainable society. In this context, new batteries with performance beyond current lithium-ion technologies are urgently needed, particularly for the electrification of the transport sector and the integration of renewables into the grid. Conversion-type cathodes, such as oxygen, sulfur, and halides, offer a high-energy-density solution based on abundant and low-cost elements. However, for these cathodes to operate efficiently, highly effective electrocatalysts are required to activate the conversion reactions. These catalysts must be based on abundant elements, add minimal weight, and exhibit high catalytic efficiency. Due to the complex, multistep nature of the reactions and the need for reversibility, single-element catalysts are insufficient. To address this, we are developing multimetallic electrocatalysts to boost these reactions. In this presentation, I will focus particularly on our work on high-entropy materials to activate the oxygen redox reaction at the cathode of zinc-air batteries, and on bimetallic single-atom catalysts for the activation of the Li-S reaction in lithium-sulfur batteries.
