College of Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) has constructed a developed teaching and research framework, including Fujian Engineering and Technology Research Center of Functional Polymeric Materials Engineering Technology , Fujian Technology Development Base of Functional Materials , Key laboratory of advanced technology for ecological environment material of Fujian Province, and Institute for Materials Research of Fuzhou University. In the last five years, more than 100 research projects have been undertaken, among which 17 are national and 33 are provincial level, and others are collaboration projects with enterprises. The accumulated research funding has amounted to 26 Million RMB, and there has been 300 SCI/SCIE academic papers published and 165 issued patents in sum. Besides, CMSE has won four prizes in Fujian Province Award of Science & Technology Progress. Moreover, 4 patents have been transferred to 3 companies of polymeric and plastic Materials etc.

INTRODUCTION

Advanced ceramics group focus on the investigation of the ceramics science and engineering, especially on the advanced ceramics field, including oxides, nitrides, carbides, silicates and corresponding composites. The main research interests include:

Preparation and characterization of special ceramics; High-performance dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric ceramics; Structure design and control of ceramics composites; Ceramics for SOFC applications; Porous and Biofunctional ceramics

INTRODUCTION

Our research interests are mainly in both fundamental and applied aspects of eco-materials. Research work involves synthesis, testing and characterization of eco-materials for the wide range of applications. The eco-materials are sourced from the solid wastes such as oyster shell, mine tailing, and the synthesis of oxides with novel structures. Photocatalysts based on C₃N₄ and TiO₂ are also studied for the ecological use. The applications include the purification of waste water by removing/decomposing the organic compounds and heavy metal ions, the immobilization/refinement of heavy metal ions from the environment. We have developed and patented many eco-materials and technologies.

INTRODUCTION

The research activities aim at understanding the structure and properties of materials, exploring surface technology, especially for coating and surface, as well as mechanism and modulation of materials and so on. The current research projects include (1) functional nanomaterials, (2) preparation technology and application of titanium anodes, (3) electrochemical corrosion of metals, (4) the key technology of energy materials, including the mechanism of sealing interface and catalyst of SOFC, and (5) surface modification technology of metals, including supercapacitor and electrode.

INTRODUCTION

The research activities are mainly supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Fujian Province, Economic and Information Committee of Fujian Province, Development and Reform Commission Fujian Province and the related enterprises both inside and outside Fujian province engaged in production and marketing of functional polymer materials and polymer composites. The research focuses on the photoelectric functional polymer materials, polymer nanocomposites and polymer molecular imprinted materials to carry out the basic and applied research. The research projects under performance include polymer electrode materials, luminescent polymer materials, reinforcing and toughening modification of polymer, polymer molecular imprinting materials and properties improvement of general polymer materials.

The research on carbon materials has mostly focused on aspects of fundamental physics as they unique electrical, thermal and mechanical properties applicable for the range of applications. INTRODUCTION

There are six researchers specialized in this research, including six tutors of postgraduate candidates and two associate professors.

This projectis mainly related to the following fields: the development and application of high strength and toughness metal materials,the preparation and molding technology of advanced magnesium and aluminum matrix light alloy, thermal spraying on the metal surface, laser coating technology, electrodeposition composite material,surface modification technique, thermodynamics and kinetics studies on interfacial interaction in composites, development and application in high performance magnetic materials and shape memory alloy.

Applicants werefounded many times by the National Natural Science Foundation of China anduniversity-industry cooperation of Fujian province.

INTRODUCTION

Stimulated by the emerging Materials Genome Initiative (MGI), advanced materials innovations depend considerably on high-throughput computations and experiments, as well as the robust database. Our research focus on architecting the general computation framework using the state-of-art computational approaches which covers multi-scale from atom level to phase level, finally to engineering component level. The microstructure and properties of some selective advanced metallic materials and inorganic functional materials are investigated by combining computation and experiments. The material systems include intermetallic compounds, 2D semiconductive heterojunctions, thin films and biomaterials etc.
